I was interested in doing a breast augmentation when I was 18 years old. Like, getting out of high school. Everybody else was developed except for me. And, like, almost everyone was doing it, also. So I told my mom about it and she told me that I should wait, like, maybe I’m going to take a little longer to develop. So — but I was still looking up doctors, especially here since I live closer, it would be more convenient. But I also started looking in Miami, Tampa. My dad suggested California because of that show Doctor 90210, like that was — supposedly they’re really good surgeons. And years went by, I focused more on school and then now at 23, I came across Doctor Sessa’s website and I saw his pictures and it looked like he did really good work. I read his bio and I was — also saw that he did ABC news like interviews on ABC news and I just thought that that was really — he had really good credentials, so I made a phone call. They told me to come in to do a free consultation and that’s how it started.

I picked Doctor Sessa, at first because I saw him in the internet and like I said, I read his bio and he had pictures, like he had so much information on the web site and I think that’s really important when you have a web site relating to plastic surgery, there’s so many women and men looking for a doctor. And if, you know, I guess they can’t go around from doctor to doctor all the time and the internet’s a good way to look up and see, you know, what doctor would be good for you. And I felt like he had really good information on there. When I came in for the consultation, right away he made me feel really comfortable. He was, like, really warm. Like he introduced himself to me and to my mother. He spoke to both of us. He was looking at me in the eye, like he talked about every single topic. I just felt like he knew exactly what he was doing and that he could give me exactly what I was looking for. …

I’m originally from upstate New York and from an area where we wear lots of clothing and layers because it’s very cold probably eight months out of the year. But in that time when I was living in upstate New York, I was always a little self-conscious about my chest and that it was small. But because we weren’t exposing yourself many months out of the year, it was something that I could easily avoid. Two years ago, I moved to Sarasota, Florida, and I’m boating all the time, wearing bikinis, and on the beach, and it’s a much more fun lifestyle. But I was always self-conscious in going out with friends and going to clubs and going to the beach because of my chest size is always so much smaller, and I’m constantly looking around and comparing myself to the other girls.

So, since moving to Florida, I was really self-conscious about my chest size and had given a lot of thought to breast augmentation. And about maybe six months ago, I started researching the other surgeons in the area. I wanted to stay local in Sarasota and have my procedure done in the city because I didn’t want to have to travel all the way to Tampa or to the east coast of Florida if any complications arose. I wanted to make sure I was home in my comfort zone.

And then I did a lot of research on the internet and came across Doctor Sessa and had a consultation with him and Chris. That consultation lasted probably close to two hours, and they really made me feel extremely comfortable in my decision, and they spent a long time just trying to figure out what size that I should be. And I think that is every girl’s biggest concern; they don’t want to be too big, they don’t want to be too small because what was the point of the surgery? That was always my biggest stress. And I had visited approximately four other offices and no doctor’s office had ever given me that much time in an initial consultation. No one had worked with me at length that Doctor Sessa had over the size and the procedure and all my questions and concerns. I felt extremely comfortable working with him and his staff. And it was a very easy decision to make at that point. I was comfortable in who I was working with and I think I signed up for the surgery two weeks after that initial consultation. I was that comfortable with his office.

What I also liked the most about Doctor Sessa’s office was that the surgery would occur right here at the office. They have their own operation room. And I did not like the fact of going to a hospital to have the procedure done. That made me really nervous. I had never had any operations previous. So, I really liked the fact that you’re in a small surgery center, right here in the office.

I had my surgery November 2nd in the morning, and I had never had surgery before, so I was extremely nervous about the feelings I would be going through and the whole experience. Never been under anesthesia before. I just never had been that vulnerable in my life, so I was very nervous going into the surgery. But as soon as I came to the office and I sat down with the anesthesiologist and the other nurses, I was put at ease immediately. They’re just such wonderful people. I still think about my experience having the surgery and the nurses, I’m just always touched by how kind and compassionate they were to me through the whole experience.

There are Different Types of Breast Surgery – Saline or Silicone? Ask Dr Sessa in Sarasota FL.

Most of my patients come in, and one of their biggest questions is should I have saline? Should I have silicone? However, with the age of the internet, most women that are looking at getting breast implants already have read about it. They understand the pros and the cons of silicone versus saline. A lot of my patients choose saline, number one, because financially, it’s cheaper. But number two, because they like the fact that it’s filled with saltwater. This is an example of one of these implants, and you could see that you’re not gonna have all bubbles inside of it. These implants are devoid of bubbles when they’re filled, so you’re not going to hear, like I just drank a big glass of water, and you’re going to hear blub, blub, blub in your stomach. You’re not going to hear that. But saline is still very, very natural, and I tell my patients it’s a great choice.

Whether you’re looking at saline versus silicone, saline is still an excellent choice, and it’s very, very safe. The way that I place my implants, I usually place them underneath the muscle. And the one thing that we do have to watch out for, though, and very, very thin people, sometimes you can see the outline of these implants. And we really want to try to avoid that. So, one of the things that we could do to protect that and protect against things like rippling, like here, you could barely see some rippling here on the sides. We want to avoid that, because that really tells everybody, these are fake. We want– I pride myself in doing very natural-appearing implants, and most of my patients come to me because of that. Because they say, Doctor Sessa, your patients look really natural. One of the things that I really abide by is, you really have to overfill these implants slightly.

So, let’s say you’re looking at a 375cc implant that you tried on that you really like the look of. So, more than likely, we’ll probably fit you with like a 330cc implant. And then we overfill it, so if we give you a 330cc implant, and let’s say you look at this implant, it’s sort of flacid a little bit. What we want to do is to make sure that we don’t have any of these ripples. We overfill it, so if we push it out a little bit and overfill it, you could see that those ripples just disappear. And that’s what we really want to do. We
want to overfill it a little bit, stretch the casing of the implant a little bit. This way, those ripples will just disappear, and it will be nice and smooth at the edge.

Saline initially, may feel slightly more tense than silicone. But as time goes on and the skin stretches and acclimates to the new size, it feels very, very natural. And most of my patients, they love it.

How Do I Choose Breast Implant Size? Let Sarasota Surgical Arts Give You a Free Consultation – Sarasota FL

One of the first things that happens when you come in for your consultation is, I take measurements, because everyone is different. And the implants that you’re gonna choose, this isn’t one size fits all. There’s varying different sizes of implants. Different shapes in both width and height, projection, there’s lots of different things that really work, and that’s sort of the art in choosing an implant. There’s not just, I want larger breasts, so you come on in, and we you know put in the generic implant.

So, the first thing that we do is, I take measurements. Of course, we go over your history, make sure that you’re healthy for this procedure. I usually make the recommendation of getting a mammogram if you’ve never had one. It’s just a good rule of thumb in terms of getting implants and moving forward. But once we get past all those small little hurdles, and we take the measurements, one of the greatest things that I do is, I take measurements of your width. The width of your breast.

Now, everyone’s breast width is different, and that’s why there are different sizes. So, once I take measurements of where your nipple is situated and the width of your breast, once I do those two things, then I will make some sort of general recommendations. I’ll ask you what size you are now, what cup size you are now and what cup size would you like to go to. You want to look busty or do you want to look natural? Are you athletic? There’s lots of different things and reasons behind choosing an implant. It’s not just, I want to be larger. Because you will be larger. A breast implant will make your whole breast larger in all dimensions. But most women nowadays want to look natural. And there’s a lot of choices to be had.

This is an example of a 300cc implant. Okay. This is a high-profile implant. There’s different types of implants that are, it’s very important to choose. I particularly like the high-profile implant because if you look at it from the side, you could see that it’s sort of cone shaped. And this is gonna give you the most amount of projection with the smallest implant. And here’s another example. This is a 375cc high profile implant, and this implant, if you put these side by side, you could see that the projection isn’t gonna be very different. However, this 375cc implant is slightly wider. Then we have another type of implant, this is, again, this is 375. And these are the pair of implants.

Breast Augmentation – Advantages of Silicone Implants vs Saline…Sarasota FL,

Sarasota Surgical Arts
Advantages of Silicone Implants vs Saline
http://www.SarasotaSurgicalArts.com/b…

So, a lot of my patients during the consultation, will ask which one should I choose, saline versus silicone? And I really like the use of silicone in terms of post-operative results. I usually give my patients, absolutely, I give them the pros; I give them the cons. But it’s really up to them as to where they want to go.

This is an example of a saline– I’m sorry a silicone implant. And the thing that’s really interesting about silicone, I always show this to my patients, is some people may have heard of something called rippling. Rippling, if you look at the edge of this implant here, you’ll see that there’s very, very little, if any, rippling. Now what rippling is, let me show it to you on a saline implant. You could really see it there. So, if you look at the edge of this implant here, you could see that’s rippling. And very thin girls or very thin people, especially in the upper part or on the sides or even in the middle, there’s a little bit less skin and musculature to cover the implant. So, because of that, you really see the outline of the implant.

A lot of girls are really worried about that, and that’s one of the main reasons why I tell them I think silicone is a better choice. It does cost a little bit extra, but in terms of long-term results and texture and feel, I think silicone is superior. If you squeeze a silicone implant, it just feels different than a saline implant. Now, granted, it doesn’t feel quite as nice when it’s in your hand because there’s skin, there’s muscle, and it’s inside your body. So, overall, there’s actually a small difference. But initially, silicone does tend to feel better. And long term, it will still give you a more natural feeling. And women really like that, especially their significant others really appreciate, and they like that sort of that natural feel.

As far as, you know, about five, ten years ago, little bit longer than that, there was a scare with the use of silicone. However, all of that was disproven. And the FDA did a whole bunch of studies on it and found that there was no correlation between auto-immune disease and use of silicone. But not only that, the manufacturers– this is now a fourth- or a fifth-generation silicone implant. And the silicone is so cohesive now, that if I were to cut this and hold it upside down, none of the gel would actually leak out.

So, a lot of women have that fear, what happens if I got into a car wreck or if I fell down and the implant ruptured? There is still a chance that that could happen, albeit low. However, with the new generation of gel implants now, it’s such a small chance that the gel would actually leak out.

Safety of Silicone Implants vs Saline? Ask Dr Sessa – Sarasota, FL

So, back in the late ’90s, they started some literature started to come out which created quite a scare amongst women that already had silicone implants and people prospectively who were looking to get silicone. There was actually a moratorium on them. You couldn’t use them. The federal government wanted to look into it a lot further. All of this was disproven. And back in about 2007, the FDA came out and said none of this was actually proven; there’s no association between silicone implants and any auto-immune or any issues that were previously being associated with it. And that gave a lot of freedom back to women that are looking at implants, because the only choice they had was for saline.

But for some people, silicone is really what they really want. I mean, it’s more natural appearing. In thin people, it’s really less chance of rippling. I think personally, it looks more natural and most of my patients love it. The people that do have it, I’ve never had one person come back and say, I wish I went with saline. Usually, it’s the other way around. Usually, I wish I had gotten the silicone. But either one, I think that they’re both great products, and it carries a very, very high satisfaction rate.

What Happens After Breast Surgery? Pain? What Do I Do? – Sarasota, FL

Sarasota Surgical Arts
Preparation for Breast Implants
http://sarasotasurgicalarts.com/breas…

The pre-operative preparation for breast augmentation is really quite simple. Most people are a little bit anxious about it. But again, we usually give our patients a pre-operative packet that goes over all of the instructions that you’ll need to get yourself ready. There’s about a page of medicines to avoid that could potentially lead to problems. Very, very explicit as to what medicines, like ibuprofen or aspirin, if you take these sorts of medicines. Of course, after that, two of the medicines that I firmly believe help your post-operative period sail smoothly through this one is Arnica Montana and the other is
Bromelain.

But I also recommend multi-vitamins that include vitamin C as well as zinc. All of these things, zinc and vitamin C, are building blocks for collagen and the Bromelain and the Arnica help reduce the inflammation as well as the bruising after surgery. All of these things really help with the preparation. And most people are so amazed that right after the surgery, my gosh, it’s over already? And within a couple of days, they are back to normal. Most people, with our instructions, are very, very in-depth and because of that, it really helps our patients feel at ease that everything that could be done is being done for them. And that’s very important to me.

Getting The Right Size Breast Implants – Cosmetic Surgery Sarasota FL

This is a saline type implant, and this is considered to be sort of a hybrid of an implant. This is a hybrid between a very flat implant, which would be a moderate-shaped implant, versus something along this line, which is a high-profile implant. Now, when you look at them side to side, you can see the difference. This is a lot wider, and it’s also a lot less projection. This is smaller in terms of width, but it has more projection.

So, all of these implants really, I try to fit to your anatomy. So, if you’re more narrow chested, you’re gonna want to use a more narrow implant, which would be something like this high-profile implant. So, we use a narrow implant but it gives you the most amount of projection for a narrow implant versus if you’re very wide-chested person, you can fit a very wide implant and still look very natural. That’s sort of the art behind choosing the proper implant for you.

Saline versus silicone is part of the picture, but it’s really how wide of an implant can your body fit and still look natural. If you measure, in terms of your breast width measures out to be about 11 centimeters, which is about average. Let’s say that you measure out to be 11 centimeters, and I choose an implant that is 14 centimeters in diameter for you. Obviously, your implant is gonna look probably artificial because not only will you have a lot of projection, but you’ll have a lot of width, and the width is what gives you that artificial appearance in terms of how it’s falling off the side of your chest and going out towards your arm pit.

Now, there’s a certain amount of that that looks very, very nice. You want to have a nice side silhouette in terms of breast augmentation. However, there’s a very slight line where you can go a little bit too far. And that’s really the art in cosmetic breast enhancement is that you want to really find a size for a woman that really fits her.

So, I really feel that if you want to look natural, there’s gonna be about three different, maybe four different sizes that you should really choose from, and they’re gonna be pretty close in size. They’re not gonna be 500cc implants, a 300, and a 200. They’re gonna be within about 100ccs of each other. So, visually, post-operatively, there’s not going to be a whole lot of difference, but I guarantee you that you will be happy with the result.

BREAST SURGERY – PAIN AFTER THE SURGERY? – SARASOTA FL

Sarasota Surgical Arts
Post-Op Care for Breast Enlargement
http://www.SarasotaSurgicalArts.com/b…

Most of my patients with breast augmentation will experience a little bit of swelling, a little bit of discomfort, but usually, most of my patients usually tell me that it’s sort of akin to, like, if you have almost like a Charlie horse or feel like you pulled a muscle or something. But most of them do quite well. Usually, I’ll put my patients on some medicines, of course, some antibiotics and some medicine that will help reduce the swelling. But also, some homeopathic medicines to help reduce the amount of bruising and swelling afterwards.

We also have very, very meticulous instructions that go over the use of ice, the use of compression. I usually require my patients to wear an almost like a sports bra type of thing just to allow some compression on the breasts, and I also use a strap that goes across or an Ace wrap type of device to help keep pressure overnight. Now, these things, as far as I’m concerned, I think it’s very, very important to allow the implants to set. Because sometimes after implant surgery, implants have a tendency to rise, and they rise up, and they stay there for, could be a month, could be two months, before they usually get down to about the three month mark were they start to settle.

So, all of these things really help the post-operative period, and I really want my patients to be as comfortable with both the result the way that their breasts look, as well as with any discomfort or any problems that they may see. And most of my patients do really, really well. Within two to three days, most if any of their mild discomfort is gone. They’re back to normal activities. Most of my patients are back at work at 2, 3 days. And most of them do quite well. Yeah.
